Breathing New Life into Learning: MUBAS Woodtech Completes First Phase of Major University Refurbishment

·

In a shining example of institutional synergy and sustainable practice, MUBAS Woodtech, a business unit under MUBAS Commercial Limited, has successfully delivered the first batch of a major refurbishment project for The Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (MUBAS).

Facing the pressure of furnishing expansive learning spaces, MUBAS engaged the on-campus woodworking experts to restore 700 desks. This initiative not only addresses an immediate logistical need but also champions a culture of restoration over replacement, all while keeping the value within the university’s ecosystem.

Last week marked a significant milestone with the handover of the inaugural batch of 200 chairs. The furniture, which has been meticulously restored by the MUBAS Woodtech team, has been transformed into sleek, modern pieces designed to inspire productivity and creativity among the student body.

"We are incredibly proud that our university trusts us with their furniture needs," said Kelvin Nkwapatila, Manager at MUBAS Woodtech. "Operating under MUBAS Commercial Limited allows us to function with the professionalism of a private company while serving our core community. This project is close to our hearts because we are literally building a better environment for our fellow students and faculty. Seeing the first 200 chairs delivered is a testament to the skill of our team and the vision of MUBAS."

The project highlights the university’s commitment to utilising its internal commercial resources to enhance campus life sustainably. By channelling this work through MUBAS Commercial Limited, the university ensures that institutional expertise remains in-house while generating revenue that supports the broader academic mission.

MUBAS Woodtech is now gearing up for the next phase of refurbishment, continuing their mission to turn old furniture into assets for academic excellence.
